Important News

We understand that the fight to control the COVID-19 virus is at a very important stage. Our priority is the health of our employees, customers and the public in general. We will open our facilities as soon as approvals from health authorities are given and will provide updates as conditions change.

We are continuing with our infrastructure improvements through appropriate work conditions.
   – The Wood Islands Lighthouse window replacement project has been completed. Thank you, Chris Stewart Precision Carpentry for a great job!
   – The disabled access to the Lighthouse is also underway by MacPherson Builders and should be complete by the time we are able to open.
   – The Whistle Stop Restaurant will also undergo some interior work before it opens.
Follow us on our Facebook page and website for more information and pictures of our site improvements.

All health directives and protocols will be followed, and we will only open the Lighthouse, Liquor Store, Whistle Stop Restaurant and Sweet Factory with approvals from the authorities. Our annual 70 Mile Coastal Yard Sale is still under review, with an update to that decision to be posted June 1st.

We wish good health and safe distancing to our community and our world.

Bidding a sad farewell to our Wood Islands Fishing Village

The little fishing village situated near the Wood Islands Lighthouse has been a delight for locals and visitors alike. It was a labour of love by locals and constructed with local materials. Built in the 60’s by local trades people, with logs hauled out by horses from local woodlots, it has held a place that was near and dear to many hearts. It portrayed not only a peek into history to educate but also represented a commitment by community to keep history alive.

Time and weather have had their effect though, and recently the Province deemed it unsafe and scheduled removal.

But have no fear! While we are horribly saddened to see this local icon disappear from our shore, we are hard at work on a solution to replace it, so that we can continue to pay homage to our local history. With love in our hearts and a tip of the hat to history, we hope to one day have a safe, new fishing village on our shore for all to enjoy once again.
